I stayed up late last night to finish this book. This is one of the most beautiful stories I've read lately. I believe this is the author's first attempt in this genre and believe me, he hit a home run. It was well researched and it really resonated. It takes place in San Francisco at the beginning of Word War 2 when the Japanese Americans on the coast were rounded up and sent away. I kept thinking as they were given a departure date that this couldn't happen in America but it sure did. Before being sent to the camp, they lived and slept in horse stalls at the race track, and that can't have been too pleasant. Before they were shipped off to the unknown, an American boy fell in love with one of the Japanese American girls and it is their story. He tries to keep in touch but her father is against any contact between them. I really didn't want the book to end but it had to so I'd know what happened. This is a beautiful book.Product details

Torn by the Sun (Audible Audio Edition) John C Dalglish James Killavey Books Reviews
A great read. A history lesson I did not receive in school. I do hope the story continues.
Who says authors don't read reviews? I read this book in its original version and gave it two stars because, while I loved the books main story, I was bothered by the fact that after I developed a strong empathy for the character, I didn't like what the author did to the main character at the end. The author has edited the book and asked me to re-evaluate the story with his adjustments. I have done so and now the main content of the story is the lingering memories of the book and not the end. I fully now endorse this book.
This was the authors first try in this genre and he did an excellent job. I loved this book. Look up this author and read everything because he is good!
Totally different from all the others I have read by John but it was interesting. I grew up with Japanese people and I know their families were impacted by WWII.
A great book and so very interesting. Great job in research. It truly is one you can't put down. Thanks so much, John!!
I've read almost all of John's books and he never, never disappoints - whatever the genre. He is a most gifted writer and I wait with anticipation for the next .
John Dalglish has done it again. I didn't expect this kind of book from him but he didn't disappoint me in the way he wrote it. Very believable characters, and lovely story line.
