I found this to be a strange retelling of the Jack and the beanstalk story. Unlike others written in this era like Alice in Blunderland. I think you need to fully understand the economy during the time it was written. I found many jokes and sections, which seem to have a humorous intent, falling flat. It's rather short though. This OLD story is a knock-off of "Jack and the Beanstalk," It rips the early 20th century's obsession with money and has a good message about what happens to a person driven by greed. (If only it were true!) I think it is really interesting to read stories from America's early capitalist/industrial period, and this is definitely one.
